Shit hits the fan

I took an old broken fan and dismantled it, i then sculpted a face using paster and plasticine, and rebuilt the fan with the face...

What is the concept? Well i was thinking about the moments i am on a up, I often feel comfortable telling people about my condition. Then when i am down, i regret it some much, i get paranoid...

rituals and Masks

OK, where am i going and more importantly where have i been...

Currently looking at rituals and Masks

Comedy tragedy theatre masks, is often sign as a symbol of bi polar or the theatre

Way  before the birth of Christ the Greeks were immersed in a culture that held the theatre as, not only a form of entertainment, but as an integral part of their religious activities

In the evenings there would be a group of men who would wander the streets, along with a musician.
This group would be called a "comus" and their fun songs a "comoedia". It doesn't take much to see where our word "comedy" derived.
Conversely, the sad songs of satyrs were called "tragoedia" from where of course we get the word tragedy.
Since masks were always a vital part of Greek theatre it was inevitable that masks would have eventually been created to depict the two foundational elements of Greek theatre.
The laughing comedy mask and the weeping tragedy masks were born and have been with us ever since.
As hard as it is to believe that something as simple as these two masks could have endured into the modern age with their original intent still being known and adhered to, that is in fact what has happened with these two masks.
So the next time you have an opportunity to view the comedy tragedy theatre masks do not be so quick to assume you understand them completely.
Remember their ancient roots and take a little time to appreciate their enduring power.

Moving on

You can see from my last 3 projects i have been looking at mental health.. mainly mine..

From the many layers of my personality, which i guess took some inspiration from Tony Cragg.Tony Cragg is a British visual artist specialized in sculpture....

There is this idea that sculpture is static, or maybe even dead, but I feel absolutely contrary to that. I’m not a religious person—I’m an absolute materialist—and for me material is exciting and ultimately sublime. When I’m involved in making sculpture, I’m looking for a system of belief or ethics in the material. I want that material to have a dynamic, to push and move and grow."

My boxed piece which looked at lithium and the fact my superhero me is hung to dry.
Joseph Cornell (December 24, 1903 – December 29, 1972) was an American artist and sculptor, one of the pioneers and most celebrated exponents of assemblage. Influenced by the Surrealists,

Shadow boxes become poetic theater or settings wherein are metamorphosed the elements of a childhood pastime. The fragile, shimmering globules become the shimmering but more enduring planets—a connotation of moon and tides—the association of water less subtle, as when driftwood pieces make up a proscenium to set off the dazzling white of sea foam and billowy cloud crystallized in a pipe of fancy."

he was also an avant-garde experimental filmmaker. which lead me to looking towards video to get my point across... whether i will continue i am not sure, i like to build things.

I am hoping to cast my face next and then vacum form it, to experiment with different moulding

A friend hightled this video...

The Scream

“I was walking along a path with two friends – the sun was setting – suddenly the sky turned blood red – I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence – there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city – my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety – and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.”
Edvard Munch, 1893

Interview With Jorge Macchi - Liverpool Biennial 2012

The Joseph Cornell Box / Exhibitions

Joseph Cornell is one of America's most innovative modern artists, known for his distinctive box sculptures, collages and experimental films that continue to influence many.

The Joseph Cornell Box / Exhibitions

this fits in my recent piece with the bird cage.

Jorge Macchi refraction

Liverpool biennial, 2012. SSituated a few hundred meters behind Liverpool lime Street station,
Set at the back of the old  Victorian building , hidden behind two Rubber doors, like you would see in any heavy industrial setting. Is a large bright room, filled periodically with various sizes of girders?  All bent and sharped to an angle.

The feeling that hits you instantly is how small and fragile you are in comparison, You also immediately wonder if you are safe, due to the precarious positioning of the  girders, yet there is also feeling  tranquility amongst.  The Piece is called refraction, like the refraction that happens when you place a pencil in water and the illusion is that its bends.

The Artist Responsible for this piece of work is if Jorge Macchi

The feeling that hits you instantly is how small and fragile you are in comparison, You also immediately wonder if you are safe, due to the precarious positioning of the girders, yet there is also feeling  tranquility amongst these giants.
