After our visit to the galleries in Manchester, we had an introduction to the various machinery with in the work shop. We also had to think about some of the pieces of art we had seen on our visit which we had found to be inspirational.
For me, I found as I would normally find, the sculptors of people and face plus the Lucian Freud picture. However I tried to look at things differently this time.
So I focused on the miniature people within the architectural models at Cube, as well as the corrugated cardboard used at Cube to display the models.
So in the workshop I had planned to make a small man, however once I had cut it out, it looked child like and I was not impressed at all.
So over the weekend I thought more about the visit, and went back to looking at the sculptors of people. So with this in mind I took the elements of corrugated paper and one of the sculptors in the Manchester art gallery, plus the photo sculptors seen in at the Corner house.
I created a corrugated based, Photoshop a photo of one of the sculptors and then when about making 3d elements to the piece.
Layers paper, moulded and shaped to create a more three3d aspect.
Although this is not finished, I felt it was a start, which has room to develop. For example. Developing a 3three d paper sculptor like Sher Christopher pieces.
Or even grander like van Lovatt who uses chicken wire to create amazing portraits of famous people. Each sculpture is made by layering, twisting and shaping of wire mesh.
